Attic Solutions
The main area of a home that can let in air from outside into your home is your attic. Adding insulation to the attic of a home has a variety of advantages. Most importantly, it prevents home temperatures from becoming extreme. Heat travels primarily by one of three ways - radiation, conduction and
convection. We customize solutions that address each of these issues to make your attic and your entire home energy efficient. Progress Energy offers rebates on your power bill for most of our home energy saving services helping homeowners save money by reducing the amount of heating and cooling necessary.
In the wintertime, a cold, non-insulated attic invites cold air into the rest of the home below. A cold room takes more energy to heat. With a central heating system, it requires a longer running time to reach a comfortable room temperature. This results in higher energy usage and higher energy bills.
In the summertime, heat works the same way. Exterior heat and the sun's strong radiant energy penetrate the roof. When there is nothing blocking it, it enters the attic and the rest of the house, making every room warmer. Without effective insulating material, the house will be warmer in the summer and colder in the winter.
There are three realistic steps for cooling the attic.
1. Adding blown in insulation to increase the R-value and the effectiveness of your insulation.
2. Radiant barrier is good and definitely a step in the right direction. It is less expensive and less effective than spray foam insulation.
3. Spray foam, although more expensive, is also more effective. This involves spraying closed-cell foam insulation against the top of the attic, sealing your attic to prevent transfer of heat from the roof into the open spaces of the attic. Outside ventilation sources are closed off, and the attic itself is cooled by leaks in the ductwork located in the attic. This brings the attic into what's called the thermal envelope of a house.
Triangle Reconstruction offers a variety of Energy efficient solutions for your attic including Radiant Barriers, Loose-fill fiberglass insulation and ventilation. We install state-of-the-art Energy Saving Technologies designed to save you 30% or more on your heating and cooling costs. Triangle Reconstruction integrates these three proven technologies to reduce the temperature of your attic.
